The Property I The Design Studio I The Granaries
So much new to share
Everyday I wake up walk down the hall into our kitchen, make myself a coffee and stare out the window into the trees, and dream about what our story will look like here.
The Property
We started along this path 2 years ago after selling the home I thought we would raise our kids in.
At that point, we had 3 new businesses between the two of us and we had a bigger plan for our future. We wanted to simplify our lives, sell our homes and create a place where we could potentially have it all! For Tyler and I “it all” meant a place to explore, a place to grow, and somewhere that we could enjoy and share creating something together for the greater good. So, at the time we shared our thoughts and dreams with our realtor and he mentioned this place not too far from town we should take a look at.
At this time ( two years ago ) it wasn’t even on the market but we happened to know the people who owned the property and they were happy to show us around. When the time came to take a look at the property it happened to be my birthday…and let’s just say our jaws hit the floor. After our tour we felt inspired and excited but there’s no way we could make this happen. So through the year, we looked at multiple properties, and as the story goes nothing compared to what this first property we went to see.
In the mean time we renovated our little rental and lived in it like sardines LOL but I kept thinking I’ll be fine we can do this there is light at the end of the tunnel!
Then March 13, 2020 happened and our dream property ( the granaries) went on the market AND COVID happened…at the same time! There was so much uncertainty there was no way we were going to jump into a property like that OR put our house on the market at that time.
So we waited until the end of summer and decided it was the right time to put our house on the market. We had two properties we decided we could have, both very different and weren’t moving anywhere in the market so we felt safe to wait and see what happened with our house.
THEN….BOOM… the property…the dream home got an offer, subject to sale! At that moment we realized how much we really wanted “the granaries”
Long story short, we ended up with an offer on our house and were able to make an offer on “the granaries” as we call it, and moved in at the beginning of this year.
The Design Studio
What we are excited to share with you are our plans for this beautiful property!
In keeping with the plan of trying to simplify our lives a bit I have decided to move my business to the property and have AM Interior Design office located in the beautiful open loft space above our detached garage. I think we have just about finished the inside and I am very excited to share that with you! I was still able to create a separate professional space from my home that can be utilized in so many ways. This space will be used as an Interior Design Office but can also accommodate a future rental space for a small meeting space, photography studio, etc.
The Granaries
OK OK I know you are reading this because you want to know what we are going to do with the granaries!!!
To say we are excited to get our hands dirty and start planning and renovating the granaries would be a huge understatement! Do we know exactly what we’re doing and have a concrete plan….no we do not BUT
What I do know is that we have plans to restore them and open them up for public use again. When is that going to be and how fast is that going to happen? I don’t have the answer for that either…We are excited to bring you all along on this journey with us in resorting this small historic piece of Dawson Creek!
Once the snow melts and we can start tearing things apart we will! This is going to be our passion project, and we can’t wait to see what we can do! We love the idea of bringing this little piece of Dawson Creek back to life and creating new memories here.
For those of you reading this that don’t live in Dawson Creek or have no idea what I am talking about… I am going to share more about “The Granaries on Bear Mountain” and their history in my next blog, so stay tuned!
